Respiratory Therapist - 13 Weeks Contract
Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, administering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed and within the scope of their professional license, all with minimal supervision. The role involves evaluating patients, recommending treatment plans, and explaining treatment procedures and equipment to patients while providing necessary education upon discharge.
Responsibilities
- Conducts physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
- Administers medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients using aerosol and nebulizer devices.
- Performs chest physiotherapy and suctioning via different methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
- Monitors oximetry and capnography according to policy.
- Reviews patient chest x-rays for further evaluation.
- Conducts pulmonary function studies and assists with procedures related to respiratory care.
- Provides tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
- Performs arterial puncture and monitors ventilation efficiency, documenting results as needed.
- Delivers cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Maintains accurate records of treatments and patient responses, communicating necessary information with physicians.
- Ensures compliance with laboratory testing policies and procedures, handling specimens and quality controls effectively.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license as per state regulations.
- Experience in intensive respiratory care and patient management.
- ACLS and BLS certification required.
Schedule
Day shift, 3x12 hour shifts.
