Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) will provide specialized care and monitoring for patients who have undergone anesthesia and surgical procedures. The PACU nurse will be responsible for the immediate recovery phase of patients, assessing their condition, managing their pain, and preparing them for discharge to Phase II recovery or admission to inpatient units.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients post-anesthesia for stability and recovery.
• Administer medications, including antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants, and emergency medications.
• Perform accurate pain assessment and management using PCA pumps.
• Document patient status and recovery progression utilizing EPIC system.
• Manage care for ventilated patients and perform central line maintenance.
• Oversee the care of pediatric patients and manage their specific recovery needs.
• Participate in interdisciplinary support with IV teams, respiratory services, and social services as needed.
• Prepare patients for discharge and provide education regarding post-operative care.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum 2 years of experience in PACU with ICU experience preferred.
• Active certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS.
• Experience with airway management, monitoring, and recovery of surgical patients.
• Pediatric Phase II recovery experience is required.
