Job Description

The Emergency Room Social Worker provides psychosocial and emotional support to patients and families admitted to the emergency department. As a consult-based service, the clinician will complete psychosocial assessments, identify appropriate discharge plans, and provide brief clinical interventions. The role includes assisting with resource navigation, coordinating care, and ensuring safe and ethical discharges.

Responsibilities

• Complete psychosocial assessments and initial evaluations for patients in the ER.
• Collaborate with the care team to develop and implement discharge plans.
• Provide brief clinical interventions and crisis support as needed.
• Coordinate services and resources to facilitate patient discharge.
• Engage in safety planning and screen for suicidality.
• Document care delivery, patient responses, and education provided to patients and caregivers.
• Participate in care conference activities and refer patients to additional resources.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 1 year of experience; 2 years preferred.
• Current AK license as LMSW or LCSW, or a pending license accepted.
• Experience in an acute care setting, preferably emergency room experience.
