Job Description
The Unit Manager is responsible for managing and supervising a large staff of Assistant Unit Managers, Registered Nurses, and related support staff assigned to specialty critical care or non-specialty patient care units. This position oversees the day-to-day unit operations and assumes 24-hour responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct the work of nursing and support staff, including performance evaluations, scheduling, and discipline.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care assignments based on staff competency and patient needs.
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Ensure adequate daily staffing and adjust schedules to meet fluctuating census needs while managing budget adherence.
- Monitor patient care quality and facilitate communication with healthcare teams, patients, and families.
- Prepare and manage the unit budget, monitor resource utilization, and control overtime.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and develop practices for improving patient satisfaction.
- Facilitate staff education and orientation programs, ensuring adherence to required training.
- Review and analyze patient data for performance improvement initiatives.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- 4+ years of nursing experience required.
- 1+ year of recent/current Supervisory/Interim experience in Labor Delivery required.
- MSN or BSN with MA in Healthcare Administration required.
- NICU experience is a plus.
- Active ACLS, AWHONN, NRP, BLS certifications required.
