Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, including intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining treatment procedures and equipment, and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments while operating various ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning of patients.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography, and review patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation.
• Assist with procedures related to respiratory care including Bronchoscopy and Chest Tube placement.
• Perform tracheostomy care and arterial puncture following established policies.
• Document treatments and patient responses accurately on respiratory care records.
• Communicate effectively with physicians regarding therapy efficiency and patient status.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Virginia license required.
• Experience in performing routine respiratory procedures.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
