Job Description
**Job Title: Respiratory Therapist** **Shift:** Night 3x12.0 **Job Description:** As a Respiratory Therapist, you will provide exceptional patient care by delivering intensive respiratory treatments and facilitating patient transport to and from the facility as medically prescribed. You will operate within the scope of your professional license with minimal supervision, evaluating patients and recommending effective treatment plans. **Key Responsibilities:** - Explain the purpose and procedures of respiratory treatments, tests, and equipment to patients; provide education for discharge to home. - Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various ventilatory and oxygen equipment, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. - Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and suction patients using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods. - Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with established policy. - Review patients' chest X-rays routinely to assess the need for further evaluation. - Execute 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition. - Conduct pulmonary function studies as per policy (e.g., NIF, VC). - Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes. - Perform arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency while monitoring, recording, and reporting test results. - Follow all laboratory testing policies and procedures, including specimen handling and documentation. - Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in alignment with BLS and ACLS guidelines. - Insert and remove endotracheal tubes, utilizing freehand techniques or video laryngoscope systems. - Set up and self-test all ventilatory equipment, maintaining and monitoring mechanical ventilation on various devices. - Assist in equipment maintenance and repair as necessary. - Document all relevant treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records, including pre- and post-assessment. - Communicate efficiently with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficacy. - Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging through diligent data entry and correction of errors. - Perform additional duties as assigned. **Behavior Characteristics:** This position requires a compassionate, thorough, and detail-oriented approach to patient care, with strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team. --- **At ARMStaffing we take care of our nurses!
