Job Description

The Surgical Technologist I in the Operating Room plays a key role in providing support during surgical procedures. This individual demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and ensures that all supplies and equipment are available, functional, and sterile.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and problem-solving abilities related to the procedures performed.
• Verifies items on the physician preference card and is accountable for accurate patient billing for supplies.
• Assembles and maintains all equipment, supplies, and instruments in working condition for surgical procedures.
• Maintains and monitors sterile field, recognizing any breaks in sterile technique.
• Sets up sterile field with instruments in a timely manner and keeps an accurate account of medications, sponges, instruments, and sharps.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 5+ years of experience in a surgical technologist role.
• Open heart experience is required.
• BLS (AHA) and NBSTSA certification is required.
• Experience in a tertiary care center and/or designated level I or II trauma center is required.
• Travel experience is highly preferred.
