Job Description: Cardiovascular Progressive Care Nurse

Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated and skilled Cardiovascular Progressive Care Nurses to join our dynamic team in Asheville, NC. This role involves providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, advanced cardiovascular setting. You will be a key member of our healthcare team, caring for patients undergoing cardiovascular and vascular surgeries.

Shift Details

• Shift: 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
• Contract Length: 91 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Unit Information

The primary patient population includes those recovering from:

• Open heart surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR, etc.)
• Thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, thoracotomy, etc.)
• Esophagogastrectomy
• Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) repairs (open and endovascular)
• Vascular surgeries (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies)

In addition, you will care for overflow medical cardiology patients with various conditions such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block.

Team Composition

• Number of Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
• Total Staff: Approximately 100
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 for RNs; 1:13 for PCTs

Required Skill Set

Must Have:

• Stepdown experience
• Telemetry experience

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery populations
• CVICU experience

Key Responsibilities

• Manage epidurals, chest tubes, and tube feedings
• Oversee IV glucosamine management and cardiac medication titration
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide comprehensive patient care

Work Schedule

Weekend Requirements: Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week schedule period.
