Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cardiovascular Progressive Care Nurse to join our team in the Cardiovascular Progressive Care unit. This unit specializes in delivering care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery, including open heart and vascular procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to a diverse patient population, including those recovering from CV surgery and other complex medical conditions.
• Monitor patient's cardiac status and respond to changes in their condition.
• Administer medications and manage IV infusions, including cardiac medications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Assist with various procedures such as epidural management, chest tube management, and tube feedings.
• Educate patients and their families on post-operative care and health maintenance.

Unit Information:

• Number of Beds: 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds
• Staffing: Approximately 100 total staff members (1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs on day and night shifts)
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 patients per RN, 1:13 for PCTs
• Equipment: Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, various lifts; EMR - Cerner

Qualifications:

• Required:
  • Stepdown and telemetry experience
  • ACLS and BLS certifications
• Preferred:
  • Experience with CV surgery and vascular surgery populations within the past year
  • CVICU experience

Floating Areas:

May include any stepdown (1:5 ratios) or medical-surgical units (1:6-7 ratios), as well as the ER inpatient holding area (1:6).

Weekend and Holiday Requirements:

• Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 6-week schedule period.
• No holiday call required.
