**Job Title: Inpatient Surgery RN (Med/Surg)** **Shift:** 07:00 PM - 07:00 AM **Unit Size:** 46 Beds **Overview:** Join a dedicated team in our vibrant inpatient surgery unit, where you will play a critical role in patient care for a diverse array of post-operative cases. Our facility boasts a spacious layout with dual nurses' stations to enhance teamwork and communication, allowing you to provide excellent patient care in a collaborative environment. **Patient Demographics:** - Varied age and gender - Common conditions include: - Post-operative recovery - Pain management - Chest and NG tubes - Heparin and TPN administration - Dressing and drainage management **Staffing and Support:** - **Nurse-to-Patient Ratio:** 6:1 maximum - **Staffing Model:** Charge nurse plus nursing assistants, with flexible support to meet patient needs. **Common Diagnoses Treated:** - Post-operative care - Urological and neurological cases - Bariatric and plastic surgery - Orthopedic and acute medical patients **Procedures and Treatments:** - Administration of pain and IV medications - Wound vac and dressing management - Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) - Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) - Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) **Technology and Equipment:** - MASIMO for non-invasive monitoring - Bedside monitoring systems - EKG machines and bladder scanners - EPIC patient care management software **Qualifications:** - Current nursing license (for onboarding purposes) - BLS certification required **Documentation Requirements:** - Vital sign checks every 4 hours - Intake and output assessments every 8 hours - Shift and full admission assessments for new patients **Additional Information:** The inpatient surgery unit is fast-paced with a high turnover rate of beds, requiring nurses to be adaptable and skilled in time management. Frequent medication administration and diverse treatment protocols will be prevalent.
